LOST AND FOUND
If your dog(s) or cat(s) got lost or stolen, could you prove it belongs to you? Do you have anything to show your ownership? Here are some tips that may help you reclaim your lost or stolen pet(s).
Micro Chip - Micro chipping is a safe and easy and permanent way to identify your pet. There are several different companies that provide this service and the fees and services vary. Generally, your veterinarian can help you with this. (And don't forget the annual renewal!)
GPS - This new technology is available through a variety of service providers. Ask your veterinarian for more information.
Collar and Identification Tag - Your pet should always have a collar on with its identification tag with name, address. and phone number, current rabies tag and if applicable, your pet registration. More pets get lost when they accidently get out when not wearing a collar and someone close to home may find your pet and have no idea you live just down the road and you pet may be taken to the pound because it does not have identification.
Tattoos - Many people have their veterinarian place a tattoo on their pet.
Pictures - Take head and full body pictures from all sides of your pet (be sure to get pictures before and after clipping if you clip your pets in the summer). Take close ups of any unusual markings.
Documents of Ownership - Keep a copy of your current Rabies Certificate, Receipts for vaccinations, Adoption Papers or Bill of Sale, and Registration papers. Put copies of all of these documents in an envelope and mail it to yourself "return receipt requested". Don't open the envelope and update and do the same every year. Then you have proof of ownership if your pet is stolen.

PROTECTING YOUR HORSES
If your horse got lost or stolen, could you prove it belongs to you? If your horse ends up in a sale barn, is there anything to identify its ownership?
Here are some tips that may help you reclaim your lost or stolen horse.
Branding - There are several types of branding available. I am getting my horses freeze branded. I am told it is the easiest on the horse (I don’t know about the owner though). Don’t forget to register your brand with the State of Oklahoma.
MicroChips - I also have my horses micro chipped just like my dogs and cats. But most people do not check for chips…but if I am trying to prove ownership that is one more way to help.
Pictures - Take pictures of all 4 sides of your horses when shed off and when haired up. Take close ups of any unusual markings.
Documents of Ownership - Keep a copy of your Coggins, vaccination receipts, pictures, Bill of Sale, Registration papers. Put copies of all of these documents in an envelope and mail it to yourself "return receipt requested". Don't open the envelope and update and do the same every year. Then you have proof of ownership if your horse is stolen.
If current legislation pending in our state legislature passes and becomes law, don’t be surprised if the theft of horses increases…protect yourself and your horse.

Celebrate K-9 Veterans
March 13, 1942
On this day in 1942, the United States K9 Corps was founded; it's now known as K-9 Veterans Day. In memory of the countless brave dogs who have gone where no human could or would, who have served multiple tours of duty in war-torn lands, who protected their handlers with their last breath: We honor your service, and the bond between you and your human handlers. Thank you.
